Marakkar: The Lion of the Arabian Sea is a Malayalam historical and legendary movie directed by Priyadarshan and a screenplay co-written by Ani Sasi. This movie portraits the story of legendary Kunjali Marakkar IV and his epic combat against the Portuguese. This movie is produced by Anthony Perumbavoor in association with Santosh T Kuruvila, and Roy CJ under the banner of Ashirwad Cinemas, Moonshot Entertainment, and Confident Group.
Marakkar Arabikadalinte Simham stars Mohanlal in the lead role, alongside Manju Warrier, Pranav Mohanlal, Arjun, Sunil Shetty, Prabhu, Suhasini, Keerthi Suresh, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Fazil, Siddique, Nedumudi Venu, Innocent and Ashok Sellan in supporting roles. Marakkar is the most expensive film ever made in Malayalam movie has a budget of Rs 100 crore. The film is set to release in Chinese as well. This will be the first Malayalam film in Chinese. It is one of the first Indian films to be dubbed entirely in Chinese.
The cinematography of Marakkar Arabikadalinte Simham is by S. Tirru. The film was edited by M. S. Ayyappan Nair. The music of Marakkar was composed by Ronnie Raphael. At the same time, the songs were sung by M. G. Sreekumar, Vineeth Sreenivasan, K. S. Chithra, Shreya Ghoshal, Shweta Mohan, and Zia Ul Haq, with lyrics by B. K. Harinarayanan, Prabha Varma, Shafi Kollam, and Priyadarshan. The film background score was composed by Rahul Raj, Ankit Suri, and Lyell Evans Roeder.

The theatre release of Marakkar Arabikadalinte Simham has been postponed to August 12, 2021, due to the wave of the worldwide Covid 19 pandemic. Previously, the film was scheduled to release on March 26, 2020. Before its release, the film had won 3 national awards. Marakkar received the National Awards for Best Costumes, Best Special Effects, and Best Feature Film in 2021. The film’s special effects were supervised by Priyadarshan’s son Siddharth.
