Who Can Apply For An Indian Passport?

1. The applicant must be an Indian citizen

2. The applicant must have been born in India or have acquired citizenship by descent from a parent who was born in India

3. The applicant must not be under any of the circumstances listed in the Passports Act, 1967, which renders him ineligible to hold a passport

4. The applicant must not have surrendered his/her Indian citizenship under any law

What are the Processing Time Frames?

Indian passport processing time varies from person to person, but the government has set a specific timeframe for each type of passport.

The processing time for a normal Indian passport is 15 working days. For children under 12 years of age, the processing time is 7 working days. For Diplomatic and Official passports, it is 10 working days.

The Indian Passport Authority will also provide an estimated date of completion at the time of submission. This date will vary depending on how many applications are being processed at that moment in time.

Can I Renew My Indian Passport?

You can extend your passport online by visiting the e-passbook website and providing your details. You will be asked to enter your passport number, name and date of birth. You will also need to provide a scanned copy of your Indian passport as well as a scanned copy of the photo page from your local ID card or driver’s license.

If you are still in India, you can renew your Indian passport by visiting the nearest Indian Passport Seva Kendra (IPSK). You will need to bring along with you a photocopy of the photo page from your local ID card or driver’s license, as well as 2 photographs (size 4x6cm) taken against the white background.
